The cost for spending eternity in the Village by the Sea just went up.

The Langley City Council unanimously approved an increase in the fees for burial at Langley Woodmen Cemetery at the council’s meeting Monday.

The council voted to increase the charge for a standard burial plot from $600 to $750.

Councilwoman Rene Neff said the increases were necessary to help cover costs.

“We are not able to keep up with the maintenance at the cemetery,” Neff said.

The council also agreed to raise the cemetery’s site transfer fee from $10 to $20.

Council members gave the rate increases an initial approval this week, and the final vote on the fee changes is expected at the council’s next meeting.
