Choices facing transit board

Here's a look at what an additional three-tenths of 1 percent increase in the local sales tax could mean to Island County bus service.

“During a public meeting Friday the Island Transit Board of Directors will decide what to do about the the county’s fare free transit system – a system that will potentially lose as much as 60 percent of its operating money by 2001 as a result of Initiative 695. One of the key options is to ask voters for an additional three-tenths of 1 percent increase in the local sales tax. Here’s a look at what that could mean to bus service.
