The Cold Read/Stage Read group of Whidbey Island Center for the Arts will present Keith Waterhouse’s “Jeffrey Bernard is Unwell” next week.

Frequent WICA director Don Wilkins leads the ensemble in the story of an alcoholic, well-known British journalist who fails to make it out of the pub one evening. He wakes up at 5 a.m. in a haze and is visited by editors, ex-mistresses and former wives, who are all immensely angry with him.

For this reading, Wilkins is joined by Suzanne Kelman, Judith Adams, Brian Plebanek and David Mayer.

The reading is at 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 15 at WICA and the public is invited. Tickets cost

$5 for festival seating.
