Construction in the Dave Mackie Park area of Maxwelton Road is set to begin this month to improve drainage issues prevalent during the winter months, according to Island County Public Works.

Work will be conducted both on land and from the water to extend an outfall about 900 feet beyond the seawall.

South of the park, new drainage pipe on Maxwelton Road will also be installed.

Though the area sees regular flooding during the winter, a Public Works press release states flooding escalated after drifting sand covered the north and south parking lot outfalls at the park.

In response, a three-phased project was developed.

The upcoming drainage improvements constitute the final component of the project and are expected to take four to six weeks to complete.
