The first score of the year 2000 went to Justin Shelton on a 30-yard dash to the goal line. Iversen made it 12-0 with a nice run of his own, then Shelton ended the big half with a 40-yard TD run.South Whidbey scored two more touchdowns in the second half, but the tiring squad gave up 26 points to the Tigers. The visitors’ last score came with 1:13 to play, but the Falcons recovered the ensuing onside kick to assure the victory.Nick Helland had a big night on offense and defense and won the annual Wally Lehman Award for being the outstanding player in the home opener. In accepting the plaque from Jim Lehman, son of the late leader of South Whidbey youth sports, Helland said the whole team deserved the award.
