“Dates have been set for public comment on the partial closure coming this fall and winter on the Clinton/Mukilteo ferry route.Washington State Ferries officials will provide information and take public comments on the following dates:* Wednesday, Oct. 11, from 4-7:30 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Freeland.* Saturday, Oct. 14, from 9 a.m. to noon, also at Trinity Lutheran Church.Jack Leengran, chairman of the North Sound Ferry Advisory Committee, said last week that the dates for the two public open houses are final. People can walk in, collect information and comment at any time during the two sessions.Major disruptions in ferry service will be required when the wingwalls are replaced at the Mukilteo ferry dock. The terminal will be closed during daytime non-commuter hours. During those hours, the car ferries will travel between Clinton and Edmonds. At the same time, a passenger-only ferry will be brought in to take foot passengers between Clinton and Mukilteo.According to Leengran, the Mukilteo dock will be closed for the first time on Monday, Nov. 27, with the last morning sailing from Mukilteo at 9 a.m. The last sailing from Clinton to Mukilteo that morning will be at 8:30 a.m.The contractor will work on the Mukilteo dock until car ferry service resumes. The first afternoon ferry will leave Clinton at 2:30 p.m.The first Clinton to Edmonds ferry will leave at 8:55 a.m., with others following at 9:30, 10:45, noon, at 1 p.m.From Edmonds, ferries will depart to Clinton at 9:50 a.m., 10:30 a.m., 11:45 a.m., 1:15 p.m., and 2 p.m..Leengran spoke to several ferry officials in gathering the departure information and feels that the schedule is final. It’s pretty much cast in stone now, he said.The schedule will be in effect six days a week. On Saturdays, service will be normal on the Clinton-Mukilteo route.Still unknown is the frequency extent of the passenger-only ferry service. State Ferries has requested proposals from a number of private companies, but a final choice has not been made. The passenger boat will use the Port of South Whidbey’s dock adjacent to the ferry dock in Clinton, and the Port of Everett’s dock in front of Ivar’s restaurant in Mukilteo.The wingwall project is expected to be finished in early February.
