For Jeremy Jost, the birth of his first child, Julia, was the perfect birthday present this year.

For Jeremy Jost, the birth of his first child, Julia, was the perfect birthday present this year.

The Oak Harbor resident shares a birthday with his newborn daughter, who claims the honor of being the first baby born on Whidbey Island in 2024.

Weighing seven pounds, six ounces and measuring 20.5 inches, Julia was born to parents Jeremy and Elizabeth Jost at 3:49 p.m. on Jan. 3 at the WhidbeyHealth Family Birthplace. Both parents were surprised to hear that she was the very first birth of the new year. Jeremy recalled a number of other babies being born right after her.

Elizabeth was assisted during the approximately 12 hours of labor by midwife Alicia Darr, who provided care and attention leading up to the birth. It helped to see a familiar face during a high-stress situation, Elizabeth said, especially when there were so many unknowns going in.

Now just over a week old, Julia is excelling at eating and cuddling.

“She’s stretching a lot with her long legs and kicking like she did in utero,” Elizabeth said with a laugh. “But it’s good because she’s active and super sweet.”

Jeremy said the couple has been happy to have the support of family here on Whidbey Island.

“Best birthday present ever,” the new dad added.
