The Giraffe Heroes Project, an international nonprofit whose home office is in Langley, has announced the hiring of Julie Vosoba as the organization’s new executive director.

Vosoba comes to the project with deep experience in nonprofit operations, having directed fundraising and board-recruitment campaigns, facilitated strategic planning and coordinated west-coast operations for a national campaign to stop violence against women.

She has also developed educational programs for children, organized public forums, lobbied for new legislation and trained volunteers.

“We’re delighted to find all the talent and experience this job requires right in our own backyard,” said Ann Medlock, the project’s founder. “And working with Julie is great fun.”

“I’d been looking for an organization with a mission I could whole-heartedly endorse,” Vosoba said. “My own experience has taught me that serving the greater good is key, that’s why encouraging adults and children to lives of service is such a great fit for me.”

A resident of Langley for the past four years, Vosoba is the mother of middle-schooler Rohini Mikkelsen, and wife of Steve Mikkelsen, who is in the construction business.

Medlock, who served as interim executive director during the search to fill the position, will remain at the Giraffe Heroes Project as creative director.
