Goosefoot Community Fund and the Myers Group will hold the grand opening of The Goose grocery store at Bayview Center on Sept. 16.

“We’re really moving into high gear,” said Goosefoot director Chris Hurley on Friday. “A full staff has been hired;

97 percent of them from Whidbey Island. The shelves are filling up, the refrigeration turned on and product is rolling in.”

Hurley said The Goose will be a totally new store providing great value, service and “a cool experience for shoppers.”

Hurley said the bulk section alone will hold 253 separate products. She said the store will be open from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. seven days a week.

“There will be a deli, bakery, fresh meat counter and an outstanding produce department that will feature locally grown items,” Hurley said.

Goosefoot plans to spend $1.5 million on improvements to the 21,000-square-foot grocery that was vacated last spring by Ron Springer’s Red Apple store.
