Greenbank woman wins CrossFit event

While many were enjoying the Whidbey Island Fair, farmers’ markets, and summer weather last weekend, a group of South Island CrossFit athletes were lifting, running, rowing, climbing and pushing their bodies to the limit at the annual Northwest Battle of the Beasts in Lacey.

While many were enjoying the Whidbey Island Fair, farmers’ markets, and summer weather last weekend, a group of South Island CrossFit athletes were lifting, running, rowing, climbing and pushing their bodies to the limit at the annual Northwest Battle of the Beasts in Lacey.

Sherry Phay of Greenbank won the Masters RX Division in her first competition as an individual. Amber O’Brien and Annika Fjortoft competed in the Scaled and RX divisions, respectively.

Battling competition from as far away as Yakima, each athlete was assigned a judge and had to meet movement standards in addition to beating their opponents to advance to the elimination rounds.
