“Tom Carpenter, director of GAP (Government Accountability Project) will be at the CyberC@fe May 23 reporting on the Hanford nuclear plant and other stories of deception, harassment, heroism and activism. The 7 p.m. presentation is free. GAP, a national non-profit watchdog organization, protects, debriefs and empowers whistleblowers from industries like nuclear installations, national forests and meat processing plants. Many have endangered their careers, even lives, as they stick out their necks to bring abuses into the limelight. Several have in fact been nominated as giraffes by South Whidbey’s own Giraffe Project.Carpenter will talk about several whistleblowers at Hanford and show a video about the situation at Hanford Reach on the Columbia River, where 70 percent of all Chinook salmon spawn. He will also share timely information that impinges on our island environment. Call the CyberC@fe at 341-5922 for information.”
