The Island County Fairgrounds’ future preservation, restoration and development are the topics of upcoming meetings hosted by the Port of South Whidbey.

The fairgrounds are managed by the port district, which is looking into ways of turning the Langley property into an economic driver. Upcoming meetings are planned for 2 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 26 and 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 1.

To date, port staff have collected at least 200 responses about the fairgrounds. Surveys were offered to people during the Choochokam Arts and Music Festival in Langley in July, as well as at the annual Whidbey Island Fair earlier in August.

Based on a port document provided to The Record, the top response of what other activity people wanted other than the fair was music concerts. That was followed, in descending order of priority, by a gardening show, garage/yard sale, antique/collectible show, and auto show and swap meet.
