Island helicopter pioneer named Aviation Legend

“Frank Robinson, Langley High School graduate and president of Robinson Helicopter Company, has been named an Aviation Legend by Aviation Week & Space Technology.Robinson was recently honored for demonstrating individual entrepreneurship in the field of aircraft manufacturing at a black-tie Laureates Hall of Fame Awards Dinner hosted by the director of the National Air and Space Museum in Washington, D.C.Aviation Week has been recognizing the achievements of people in the aerospace and aviation fields for more than four decades with its Laurel and Laureates awards. Winners are selected for extraordinary accomplishments in aerospace and aviation. Other Legend award recipients this year included former U.S. Senator Sam Nunn and NASA astronaut and airline executive Frank Borman.Robinson is president of California-based Robinson Helicopter Company. A few years ago, he donated $1 million to the University of Washington, with the fund earmarked for scholarships for students from South Whidbey High School. He has a home at Mutiny Bay.”
