“Dance, dinner tickets availableMembers of the South Whidbey High School Jazz Band are out in the community selling tickets to the March 10 dinner and dance. If they miss you and you wish to attend, call band director Brent Purvis at 221-4300, ext. 5355, or stop at the main office at the high school. Tickets are $15 per person, which provides a complete salmon dinner (or a vegeterian pasta alternative) and a night of dancing to live music.Enjoy fine dining and outstanding music and dancing March 10, courtesy of the South Whidbey High School Jazz Band.Next Friday night promises to be a memorable evening as the Jazz Band raises money to help pay for a trip to British Columbia in late April.The night begins at 7 o’clock with a salmon dinner, thanks to a donation from local fisherman Rick Hastings. He will be cooking the salmon as well, with assistance from Kim Ford. For those who don’t want salmon, a vegetarian pasta alternative will be available.The high school commons will be specially decorated by a hard working cadre of volunteers. We have a great committee of decorators, said band director Brent Purvis.Purvis and his dedicated band and singers practice every morning beginning at 6 :30, and in recent days their attention has been focused on the big dance.We’re trying to cater to the dancers, Purvis said. Come ready to do some swing dancing. Also expect a salsa number and a few surprises.Even if you don’t dance, you’ll enjoying listing to the award winning SWHS Jazz Band in an informal setting. Almost every student in the band will play a solo, Purvis said.From April 27-30, the Jazz Band will tour southern British Columbia, with performances scheduled in Vancouver and Victoria.”
