More public art is planned for Langley’s roads and walkways, with the next project on tap an archway in Clyde Alley.

The Langley Arts Commission, a citizen board operating on behalf of the city, is seeking design proposals for a pedestrian arch over the south entrance of Clyde Alley, between Callahan’s Firehouse and the Braeburn Restaurant.

The archway should be approximately 14 feet high, 10 feet wide and constructed of low-maintenance, weather-resistant materials.

The Langley Arts Commission selection process will be based on pedestrian safety, artistic quality, and uniqueness of design, durability, maintenance requirements, ease of construction and the ability to complete the project within 60 days from award.

Up to $5,000 for the construction and installation is planned for the winning project, commission Chairman Frank Rose said at a recent city council meeting.

Proposal deadline is Monday, Dec. 14. Applications should include a maximum two-page resume, installation plan, one paragraph artist statement and brief biography, and all digital images should be in JPEG format, RGB color mode and 72 pixels per inch (ppi).

Other projects still in early design phases include a mural and up to four sculptures along Clyde Alley.

Applications may be submitted to the city by mail at P.O. Box 366, Langley, WA 98260, in person at Langley City Hall, 112 Second St., or by email to planning@langleywa.org.
