Langley ‘eyesore’ on way to demolition

A burned out house on Anthes Avenue may soon be demolished, three months after a fire consumed it.

A burned out house on Anthes Avenue may soon be demolished, three months after a fire consumed it.

That day, possibly one week away, could not come sooner for neighbor Kirk Lacewell. Living across the street, Lacewell told Langley City Council he sees the charred structure nearly every day, and the view has yet to improve.

“It’s an eyesore, it’s a hazard,” Lacewell said. “On a windy day, there are thousands and thousands of book pages.”

Mayor Fred McCarthy reported the homeowner, Maralie Johnson, is meeting with her insurance agent to discuss the claim, and the property may be cleared as soon as next week.

The mayor said City Hall did not know the cause of the fire.
