Five additional law firms have expressed interest in serving as legal advisors to the city of Langley.

City officials said new submittals were received late Friday from Lighthouse Law Group of Seattle; Dionne & Rorick of Seattle; Ogden, Murphy, Wallace of Seattle; K&L Gates of Seattle; and Helsell Fetterman of Seattle.

Langley launched a competitive search for a new city attorney in December, and Friday marked the deadline for proposals from legal firms interested in a service contract with the city.

All told, 10 firms have expressed interest in the job or a piece of the city’s legal work.

Langley accepted proposals earlier last week from Skinner & Saar of Oak Harbor; Kenyon Disend of Issaquah; Morris Law of Seabeck; Summit Law Group of Seattle; and Mark Hanley, Coupeville.

The city’s current legal advisor, Weed, Graafstra & Benson, Inc. of Snohomish, did not submit a proposal. The company’s current contract with the city ended in December but will run until an end-of-contract notice expires, city officials said.

Officials at city hall said earlier that candidate interviews would likely be held at the end of January, with a recommendation coming to the city council Feb. 6. The new city attorney is hoped to be on board by March 1.
