Man arrested after driving car into home

A man from Burien was arrested on suspicion of DUI Tuesday evening.

A man from Burien was arrested on suspicion of DUI Tuesday evening after driving a pickup truck through a fence and into the side of a house on North Whidbey, according to the Washington State Patrol.

Trooper Kelsey Harding said the accident occurred around 8:21 p.m. June 20. Joseph Joyal, 21, was driving on Highway 20 when his vehicle left the roadway.

Joyal drove through the fence of a Deception Circle residence; his pickup truck rolled over a propane tank on the property and came to a rest on its roof against the back of the house, according to North Whidbey Fire and Rescue, which responded to the incident.

Fire Battalion Chief Daniel Horton said Joyal got himself out of the vehicle before responders arrived. No one was injured in this accident, though Joyal’s vehicle was totaled and the wall of the house sustained damage near a chimney.

Horton said the propane tank did not appear to have been damaged, and the line connecting the tank to the house did not rupture.

The vehicle remained on the property overnight. Harding said it could not be towed until the gas company could shut off the gas to the propane tank.
