One man was injured and another man and a woman were arrested recently after a house party deteriorated into a brawl involving more than 20 people, according to the Island County Sheriff’s Office.

Det. Ed Walllace said three sheriff’s deputies, two Langley police officers and two Washington State Patrol troopers responded to the incident on North Bluff Road, in the Greenbank Farm area between Wonn Road and Shoreline Drive, near Highway 525.

“It was a bunch of people from town,” Wallace said, referring to off-island visitors. “It had gotten out of control.”

He said the Langley officers were summoned “because we needed the help.”

Wallace said the initial call from someone at the scene about 11 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 13, said there may be guns involved, but no weapons were found. The caller also said people were screaming, and that someone was injured.

Wallace said a 21-year-old Seattle man was struck on the head with a croquet mallet. He was transported to Whidbey General Hospital, then taken to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.

A 22-year-old Carnation man was arrested and charged with felony assault; he was later arraigned and released, Wallace said. A 23-year-old woman who was responsible for the house where the party was held was also arrested for obstructing officers, he said.

“It was a fight between two groups,” Wallace said, “but it appeared that no local people were involved.”
