Petition protests Lone Lake changes

A petition aimed at restoring Lone Lake for family fishing is being circulated on Whidbey Island.

“A petition aimed at restoring Lone Lake for family fishing is being circulated on Whidbey Island.Organizer Dee Wahl, who lives near the lake, said private parties have been collecting signatures here and in Oak Harbor. Most businesses have been reluctant to get involved, she said, but the petition can be found at Neil’s Clover Patch restaurant in Bayview.Beginning May 1, new regulations took effect at Lone Lake. Only artificial lures and flies are allowed, and the daily limit is one trout that must be at least 18 inches in length.According to Wahl, the petition states that the new rules give our lake to a select few — the sports trophy fishermen, and asks that the Department of Fish and Wildlife put our lake back to where it was — a family lake. When the signatures are collected Wahl will present them to Fish and Wildlife officials. She is also attempting to have them meet the public on South Whidbey sometime in the near future. For information call her at 321-4820.”
