Port of Coupeville seeks new commissioner

Commissioner Patrick Kennedy announced his resignation from the board.

The Port of Coupeville is seeking a new commissioner for District 3 after Commissioner Patrick Kennedy announced his resignation from the board.

Kennedy has served on the port’s board of commissioners for less than a year but cannot complete his term because he is moving off-island to be closer to family, port Executive Director Chris Michalopoulos said. Kennedy was elected to the board in the general election of 2021, beating out his fellow Greenbank resident Mike Seraphinoff.

Whomever the board selects to replace Kennedy will serve until the general election of 2023, at which point he or she may decide to run again, Michalopoulos said.

Anyone interested in filling the vacancy may reach out to Michalopoulos at executivedirector@portofcoupeville.org or 360-222-3151. Potential applicants must live in the port’s third district and be at least 18 years of age. If multiple applicants come forward, the board of commissioners will conduct interviews to select Kennedy’s replacement.

Michalopoulos said the port hopes to find someone with Kennedy’s same passion for the port’s historic properties and support for the port staff.

“He did such a great job. He was such an advocate for the Greenbank Farm,” Michalopoulos said. “He’ll be missed.”
