The Board of Commissioners of the Port District of South Whidbey Island will convene a special meeting at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 4, in the port office conference room, located at 1804 Scott Road in Freeland. The meeting will follow an informal workshop from 6 to 6:30 p.m.

A news release cites the primary purpose of the special meeting as a discussion among commissioners and staff of three specific topics: preparation of the Comprehensive Scheme for Harbor Improvements for 2013-2019, current Shoreline Master Program efforts in which the port is involved, and updates on current South Whidbey Harbor projects. Although the meeting is open to the public, it has been scheduled for detailed commission and staff discussion of process and schedule issues for the listed topics and to determine subsequent direction for staff, and public participation is not on the agenda.

The next regular meeting of the Board of Commissioners is Tuesday, Dec. 11, in the meeting room of the South Whidbey Parks & Recreation District office, 5475 Maxwelton Road. That meeting will include public participation, including a proposal to purchase port property at Possession Point.
