Zoning change may open South Whidbey School District leasing

A change in zoning code may help the South Whidbey School District lease some of its unused property.

A change in zoning code may help the South Whidbey School District lease some of its unused property.

The district headquarters relocated to the transportation and maintenance center on Maxwelton Road. District administration was held in the office building near Langley Middle School on Camano Avenue, which is now available for lease.

New Langley zoning code changed the Camano Avenue area to a low-impact/commercial zone. District leaders hoped that will make the 4,000 square-foot office space more attractive to potential renters.

“Hopefully that will make it easier for us to get a tenant in the district office building,” said Superintendent Jo Moccia.

The district office is the last facility available for lease through the school district. Bayview School and Island Dance were both leased in August. Island Dance now occupies the two-story building on the Langley Middle School campus and the Whidbey Island Community Education Center rents Bayview School.
