Porter building work draws city award from Langley

Some work on the three-decade-old Porter Building on Anthes Avenue drew the praise of Langley’s mayor Monday.

During the city council meeting June 1, Mayor Fred McCarthy presented an award to the building’s owner, Jim Porter, and the designer who redrew the facade and exterior look, Eric Richmond of Flat Rock Productions.

“What you’ve done is taken your building and really transformed it,” McCarthy said.

The building was constructed in 1983. Porter had its main entrance on Anthes Avenue redone and the entire building repainted.

“The thought was ‘Change something.’ What you see is was Eric came up with. I just paid for it, which was a lot,” Porter laughed.

Both men were given mayor’s excellence awards and pins.

“We want to thank you for investing in the building and for your great design,” McCarthy said.

Added Councilwoman Rene Neff: “It inspires other people to do the same thing … We know how much you’ve given to this community over the years and we appreciate it.”
