UUCWI ready to ‘Gather Together’
For many, Thanksgiving is a favorite family holiday, emphasizing the blessings of home and connection.
At the Sunday service for the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Whidbey Island, Rev. Kit Ketcham will celebrate the abundance of life’s gifts as we express our gratitude and take pleasure in giving to others out of our full hearts, even when life is difficult.
The service is at 10 a.m. and all are welcome. Values-based children’s religious exploration classes and childcare will be provided.

‘Soul and Body’ at Sunday service
“Soul and Body” is the topic of the Christian Science service on Nov. 21.
“Rightly understood, instead of possessing a sentient material form, man has a sensationless body; and God, the Soul of man and of all existence, being perpetual in His own individuality, harmony, and immortality, imparts and perpetuates these qualities in man — through Mind, not matter,” (“Science and Health”).
All are invited to come and explore the spiritual meaning of the word soul through readings from the Bible and “Science and Health.” Services begin at 10:30 a.m. Sunday at 15910 Highway 525 (just north of Bayview and across from Useless Bay Road).
Pastor Wenzek to give Sunday’s lesson
Pastor Darrell Wenzek will speak tomorrow morning at South Whidbey Community Church on “The Church at Thyatira,” one of the seven churches of Revelation, and based on Rev. 2:18-29.
Following morning worship, the Elders will serve soup and salad to everyone and discuss a potential property acquisition and a vision for future ministries of SWCC.
Morning worship begins at 10 and is preceded by an adult learning forum at 9 a.m., with Stan Walker leading a study in the book of Ephesians. These are open classes to which everyone is invited.
All SWCC sermons and special adult-forum lectures are recorded, and copies on CD-R or e-mailed as Windows audio attachments may be obtained by calling the church at 221-1220.
SWCC is a local independent, non-denominational church that adheres to the National Association of Evangelical’s Statement of Faith. It is open to everyone and gathers for worship each Sunday at the Deer Lagoon Grange, 5142 Bayview Road.

Forum explores the roots of religion
The adult forum of the Langley United Methodist Church is using a video series entitled, “Exploring the Roots of Religion.”
Stonehenge, Machu Picchu, the Acropolis, the Great Pyramids at Giza. Sites such as these have captivated the world for centuries. But why were these massive sites created? It’s the dynamic force of religious belief.
Archaeology uses material remains to fill in gaps in the historical record, and provides a useful way to grasp the nature of faiths and rituals. Professor John Hale of the University of Louisville takes viewers deep inside caves and crypts and across vast deserts and ancient cities around the globe, from Turkey and Polynesia to Mexico and Sweden to Cambodia, and even to the American Midwest.
The adult forum is held at 11 a.m. Sundays in the Fireside Room at the Langley United Methodist Church.
Focus will be on Friends of Friends
The topic is “Friends of Friends Revealed” at the next adult forum at St. Augustine’s in-the-Woods Episcopal Church in Freeland.
Claudia Fuller, a member of the board of directors for Friends of Friends, will present an overview of the organization which provides a vital, but often unsung, service to the community.
Friends of Friends is a nonprofit organization that is dedicated to raising funds for medically related items that are not covered by health insurance, and dispersing these funds to South Whidbey residents who are unable to pay. Friends of Friends has been a recipient of St. Augustine’s Mission Sunday Offering for several years.

Rev. Gabriel shares easy relief techniques
Rev. Joanna Gabriel will discuss “End of the Year Clearance!” at the Sunday service for Unity of Whidbey.
We’re quickly approaching the holidays, and in an effort to intend and create a rich and peaceful experience, we have an opportunity to clear out that which no longer serves us in order to make room to draw in that which we desire.
Gabriel will explore some easy and effective release techniques, and why it is an important exercise.
