“Rachael Lynn Smith of Langley was awarded a bachelor’s in science degree from Western Washington University at the conclusion of summer quarter, 2000.The Washington State University College of Engineering and Architecture faculty selected Yuki A. Seda as the Outstanding Sophomore in Architecture for the 1999-2000 school year. A 1998 South Whidbey High School graduate, Seda is a member Phi Eta Epsilon academic society and will serve as vice president of the WSU chapter of the American Institute of Architecture Students for the 2000-2001 school year. She is the daughter of Etsuko and Marvin Seda.Langley resident Damon Michael Arndt has been named to the dean’s list for academic achievement for the spring 2000 semester at Washington University in St. Louis. Washington University is counted among the world’s leaders in teaching and research.He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Arndt.Meg Peticolas of Langley, a senior at Holy Names Academy, Seattle, is one of the school’s seven National Merit Semifinalists. The National Merit Program, a private, nonprofit organization that provides recognition and scholarships to high achieving students, awards this designation to the top one percent of the nation’s high school seniors. Peticolas was one of 32 HNA students — 25 percent of the Class of 2001 — honored as a Commended Student or Semifinalist in the program this year.In addition to excelling in academics, Peticolas plays piano and alto saxophone and is a member of the school’s Jazz Band. She was a first alternate to the state music competition last spring. She also plays volleyball and softball and has served as a Student Ambassador, hosting school events. Last summer Peticolas attended the National Youth Leadership Forum on Medicine, one of her areas of interest as she looks ahead to college next year. “
