Pastor explains why sin is still a problem
Pastor Darrell Wenzek continues his series in the First Letter of John at South Whidbey Community Church. Tomorrow’s sermon is “Facing Up to Sin,” based on 1 John 1:5-2:2.
Wenzek will discuss why sin is still a problem we must all deal with, and the path to forgiveness.
Sunday worship is from 10 to 11 a.m. and is preceded by an adult learning forum at 9 with Stan Walker leading a study in the Book of First Corinthians, and Rick Zapata leading a study in the Book of Genesis: the lives of the patriarchs. These are open classes and everyone is invited.

UUCWI will honor service and spirituality
Rev. Daniel Link from Naval Air Station Whidbey Island will speak on the topic of service and spirituality at the Sunday service for the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Whidbey Island.
Service manifests in many forms: military service, community service and more. There will be a special collection to benefit the Whidbey Veterans Resource Center.

Prayers over bread and wine in Freeland
“Prayers Over Bread and Wine” will be held from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Thursdays, Dec. 1, 8 and 15 at St. Augustine’s in-the-Woods Episcopal Church.
All are welcome to participate in this Advent program. Evenings will begin with a light supper of soup, salad and bread, followed by teaching and discussion led by the
Rev. Dr. William Seth Adams as he helps participants look at the church’s practice of praying over bread and wine from very early times.
Sunday’s prayers will also be considered, with the aim to deepen and enrich one’s engagement in these prayers.
The church is located at 5217 S. Honeymoon Bay Road.
New youth leader joins Langley UMC
Langley United Methodist Church is happy to announce a new youth and children’s program associate, Lauren (Johnson) Coleman.
Coleman grew up in this church and was a nursery attendant during high school. She is excited to bring her organizational skills and new ideas to the program.
She also loves coaching youth basketball and has an 18-month-old daughter with her husband, Josh. She can be contacted at laurenlumc@gmail.com.
The church’s new nursery attendant is Christina Moats, who comes with 30 years of experience working with children through her tutoring service. Moats is also a Realtor at Windermere/South Whidbey and she volunteers with a number of community organizations.

‘Soul and Body’ is topic on Sunday
“Soul and Body” will be the topic for the Christian Science service Sunday, Nov. 20.
Recognizing Soul as a synonym for God (Spirit) and not as something a human can lose or destroy allows one to claim God’s blessings today as a “goodly heritage.”
“Heredity is not a law … we disarm sin of its imaginary power in proportion to our spiritual understanding of the status of immortal being,” (“Science and Health”).
“Glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s,” (I Corinthians 6:20).
Services begin at 10:30 a.m. at 15910 Highway 525, just north of Bayview and across from Useless Bay Road.
Thanksgiving service includes testimonies
A special Thanksgiving service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 23 at the Christian Science Church.
The service will include readings from the Bible and “Science and Health” as well as testimonies from the congregation about personal healings and remarks on Christian Science.
“Sing joyful songs to the Lord! … Come to worship him with thankful hearts and songs of praise,” (Psalms 95:1).
Everyone is welcome at this celebration of Thanksgiving.
