Two candidates will vie for the favor of the South Whidbey School District Board of Directors and the appointment to the District 2 seat on Wednesday.

The selected interim school director will hold the position until the next election in Nov. 2015.

The meeting will begin at 5 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 22, in the South Whidbey Elementary School Community Room with an opportunity for the board, school district staff and area citizens to meet the candidates.

The two candidates to be interviewed by the board are Freeland residents Jordan Nelson at 5:30 p.m., and Julie Hadden at 5:45 p.m. The board will retire to an executive session from 6 to 6:30 p.m. to discuss qualifications. Once complete, they must return to open session to make a decision.

The board is seeking to fill the position after Fred O’Neal, who served on the board for a combined total of nearly 12 years, submitted his formal resignation at a board meeting Aug. 27.

O’Neal cited “family circumstances” as the cause of his action, noting that he and his wife would like the opportunity to spend more time with their daughter and grandkids at their home in Florida.
