The South Whidbey School Board unanimously approved letting the superintendent do her job by cutting programs, services and staff.

At the school board meeting Wednesday evening, the board passed a resolution which gives District Superintendent Jo Moccia the authority to set the budget priorities, which include reducing teaching ranks and programs.

Resolution 593 states several reasons for the impending cuts, none more critical than the projected decline in student enrollment, which means less revenue.

The motion also notes how the district attempted to give some teachers an incentive to leave, but was unsuccessful.
