Talk to boost bands begins in South Whidbey school leadership

Music programs in South Whidbey schools seem to be safe from cuts.

Music programs in South Whidbey schools seem to be safe from cuts.

Superintendent Jo Moccia said the South Whidbey School District is looking for money to expand its music programs at Langley Middle School and South Whidbey High School.

Her statement came on the heel of a comment by George Henny at the April 24 meeting. He was concerned with a “rift” between the district and band teachers Chris Harshman and Jess Monett.

“I believe they’re an asset and should be retained,” Henny said.

The school district is not reducing jazz in any way, the superintendent said.
