Representatives of the union for South Whidbey teachers and officials of the South Whidbey School District have reached a tentative agreement on a new contract.

Val Brown and Jan McNeely, co-presidents of the South Whidbey Education Association, wrote in a joint statement that the union would vote on it before the September school board meeting.

The pair also said they will withhold specifics of the contract until it is approved by the teachers and the school board.

District Superintendent Jo Moccia also would not discuss the agreement.

“Details of that agreement will not be shared until both sides have ratified it,” Moccia said.

The school board and the teachers’ union will now vote on the contract. Moccia said it could be ratified by the end of September.

The next school board meeting is a workshop, planned for Sept. 14. The next business meeting for the board is on Sept. 28.

Late last month, the school board approved a new contract for classified staff in the district. That agreement runs through Aug. 31, 2013.
