Transition Whidbey Potlucks with a Purpose! is 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 2 at Bayview Community Hall.

The November program is “Local Responses to the Global Economic Crisis.” Jonathon Moses will give a brief presentation followed by a group discussion.

While his family has roots in the Langley area that stretch back to the turn of the last century, Moses has been working and living in Norway for the past 15 years, as a professor of political science at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology in Trondheim, Norway. His research is in the field of international political economy, with a focus on the political consequences of global finance and migration flows. His most recent book is entitled “Emigration and Political Development” (Cambridge University Press, 2011), but he also has a more accessible (less academic) introduction to international migration, entitled “International Migration: Globalization’s Last Frontier” (Zed Books, 2006).

The potluck begins at 5:30 p.m.; bring a local potluck dish that serves four to six plus your own utensils and dinnerware. The program follows at 6. Suggested donation is $5; more if you can, less if you can’t (dollars and terras accepted).
