Nick Serrano and Jackie Rutherford of Lake Stevens will be married Saturday at Dancing Fish Farm in Freeland.

Nick Serrano and Jackie Rutherford of Lake Stevens will be married Saturday at Dancing Fish Farm in Freeland.

The lucky couple aren’t just tying the knot, but are the winners of the first Win a Whidbey Wedding contest put on to promote Whidbey Island as a winter wedding destination.

Island wedding and event professionals, along with tourism officials, teamed up to donate a wedding for one couple and 48 guests, worth over $16,000.

Couples nominated themselves by telling their story and submitting a photo. The public voted and one lucky couple was chosen at random at the Weddings on Whidbey and Events Tour last November 8. The winning couple, Serrano and Rutherford, have been working fast and furiously with Whidbey Party Girls! to hold the January wedding. They’d originally planned to marry in August.

“It has been such a whirlwind of wedding planning, but Jackie and Nick are a great couple, perfectly suited to one another, so wedding planning has been a breeze,” according to Gloria Mickunas, the owner of Whidbey Party Girls! and one of the one of the contest’s organizers. “Having a date coming up so quickly made it easy for Nick and Jackie to really define what was most important to the two of them and what they wanted to have incorporated for their wedding day.”
