Woodmen’s graves go green in Langley

Woodmen Cemetery continues its plan to go green.

The Langley-Woodman Cemetery saw an uptick in sales of its “green” graves designed to be environmentally friendly. There are 80 total green gravesites, and 21 are purchased from the program that was started in 2010.

To avoid any financial deficit, the cemetery’s advisory board elected to raise the cost of its regular gravesites from $600 to $750. Cemetery board President Marilyn Strong told Langley City Council the increase has made the cemetery more financially stable.

She also informed the council and Mayor Fred McCarthy she planned to step down after another year as the board’s president. The year notice was to find a replacement and help the transition.

“Marilyn has done a fantastic job and shepherded this group to places we never thought it would go,” said Councilwoman Rene Neff.
