Jeni Abercrombiecarswell

Jeni Abercrombiecarswell passed away peacefully April 30, 2010, after a long battle with her brain tumor.

She was born April 29, 1975, and spent her formative years in Renton.

She graduated from Renton High School and four years later from Western Washington University with a degree in political science.

During her junior year she took her inquiring mind for a year abroad and attended Greenwich University in England on a student exchange program. The experience was everything she had hoped it would be with a bonus of meeting and falling in love with her husband Lee Carswell.

They each finished their degrees the next year at their respective universities and the following summer were married at the family home on Whidbey Island (in 1997).

They returned to England for six years, where Lee completed a master’s degree and Jeni worked in the financial sector. She was initially diagnosed with, and treated for, a brain tumor in 1999.

The couple moved back to Seattle in 2005, after a short time in San Jose, Calif. where Jeni qualified and practiced as a massage therapist until her tumor recurred in 2007.

Jeni is survived by her husband Lee; daughters Rita (5) and Zola (2); mother and father Steve and Andrea Abercrombie; sister Brei (Eric) Haywood; and nephew Talen and niece Emerson.

In Birmingham, England she is survived by father-in-law and mother-in-law James and Margaret Carswell; brothers-in-law Anthony and Christopher (Heather) Carswell; and nephew Elliot Carswell; best friends forever, Josie Randles and Adam Fender; and many aunts, uncles and cousins in the U.S. and England.

As described by her friend Adam, Jeni was a “touchstone” for everyone she encountered for her courage and commitment to her goals, and will be remembered forever. Jeni never quit! Everything she did the last few years was based on her love of and for her family.

By Jeni’s request, the family will be having a private celebration of Jeni’s life at the family summer home on Whidbey Island.

Donations in honor of Jeni’s life and to support her love of animals should be made to WAIF, www.waifanimals.org.
