Richard Shepard

Richard Lloyd Shepard, 86, of Kirkland, Wash., passed away peacefully on August 10, 2013. He was born April 10, 1927 to Lester and Mabel Shepard in Des Moines, Iowa. On August 22, 1951 he married Patricia Ann Martens in Rockwell City, Iowa.

Dick is survived by his wife, Pat, two daughters Nancy (Alan) Bohling and Jan (Marty) Rood, and son Thomas (Sarah) Shepard. He also leaves behind six loving grandchildren: Elizabeth Bohling, Jeffrey Bohling, Stephanie Rood, Michelle Rood, Sydney Shepard and Zack Shepard.

Dick served in the USMC at the end of WWII. Following his service, he earned a bachelors degree in math and industrial arts from the University of Northern Iowa and a Master of Education from the University of Northern Colorado at Greeley

After a long career at The Travelers Insurance Companies, Dick became partners with his son-in-law, Alan, in Seattle Boat Co., where he provided amazing support and timely advice that helped Seattle Boat become the company that it is today.

Dick and Pat spent their retirement years on Whidbey Island overlooking the shipping lanes and his beloved Bush Point.

A memorial service will be held 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, August 14, 2013 at Acacia Memorial park in the chapel.
