Suzanne Davenport

Suzanne Davenport, 71, of Freeland, died Sunday, July 13, 2008 in Freeland.

Suzanne was born on Jan. 7, 1937 in El Centro, Calif. to Stevens and Ernestine (Edwards) Harris.

She graduated from El Centro High School with the Class of 1954. On July 27, 1957, Suzanne married her high school sweetheart, Jim Davenport.

After graduating from San Diego State University with a bachelor’s degree and an elementary teaching endorsement, Suzanne became a kindergarten teacher.

While her children, David, Julianne and Stephanie were growing up, Suzanne stayed at home with them, only going back to teach part-time once they reached school age.

She was very good at being a mother to her children. She loved her family very much and always made time for them.

Suzanne made many friends throughout her lifetime; in high school, in college, teaching and here on the island. She has stayed in contact with them throughout the years. She was a good friend and relationships were very important to her. She treated everyone like gold.

Quilting was one of Suzanne’s favorite things to do. She created beautiful quilts that were works of art. She was a third generation member of PEO and attended South Whidbey Assembly of God Church.

Suzanne is survived by her husband of more than 50 years, Jim Davenport of Freeland; son David (Laura) Davenport of Holly Springs, N.C.; daughters Julianne (Larry) Languille of Freeland and Stephanie (Jeff) Bramschreiber of San Jose, Calif.; grandchildren Drew, Brittany, Christine, Alex and Kaylah; great-granddaughter Caitlyn; brother Steve (Susan) Harris of Valley Center, Calif.; nephews Steve (Nicole) Harris and Bill (Kim) Harris, both of San Diego, Calif.

She was preceded in death by her parents and grandson Davis Davenport.
