Tomorrow, millions of people across the country will be gathering with friends, family, or both, for good food and good company. No doubt, many will also reflect on the things they are thankful for. To get the ball rolling, here’s a short gratitude list from the crew at the South Whidbey Record.

Kim Winjum, associate publisher

— That the tattoo I got in my 20s, which has morphed into something extremely different, is in a place no one else can see. And that my boyfriend is blind.

— That I have someone in the office who is “relevant” and helps me to be more so.

— That rap music hasn’t really found its way to South Whidbey.

Ben Watanabe, reporter

— For discovering what is likely a lifelong passion in fishing due to the generosity and patience of Kevin Lungren and Jerry Shimek.

— For my South Whidbey Record co-workers, who surprise me almost every day with something humorous and, more importantly, for working with me.

— For not having been on the ferry that nearly collided with a fishing vessel.

Celeste Erickson, reporter

— For the wonderful Whidbey community that has welcomed me with open arms during my first year here.

— For the hot and savory soups at P.S. Suisse and the South Whidbey Commons, which have kept me going all through fall. Now that we’re in Freeland the journey will be a little longer, but I most certainly will be heading that direction for some hot soup.

— I’m most thankful for my loving family.

— For the relatively stress-free commutes on Whidbey Island, even with all the drivers who travel under the speed limit for God-knows-what reason.

— That while UFOs may have been seen over Whidbey, there have not been any reports of abductions or unwanted … experiments — yet.

— That zombies are not real.

— For a wife who too often lets me hold the remote control.

— That the 2014 General Election is only one year away.

— For a crew of hardworking, fun and talented people who really do make coming to work a pleasure.
