South Whidbey golfer Harrison Price finished in second place during a recent two-day golf tournament.

The Junior Golf Tour tournament split players on two different courses: Woodlands and The Links. Price, a senior, shot 149 at The Golf Club at Hawks Prairie in Lacey.

“That was my best two-day tournament ever,” he said.

On The Links course for the first day, Price had one of his best golfing performances. He shot one-under par (71) and hit 17 greens.

“That makes golfing easy,” Price said.

His best hole was on the ninth at The Links. He was

three strokes over par as he stepped to the tee, and he needed a good series. His drive cruised down the middle for him to make a birdie putt on a par-5 hole.

The Woodlands course was not as easy for Price, who shot 78.

“I was a little disappointed,” he said.

A rough fifth hole put Price behind early in the round. He was already three strokes over par before he teed off on the fifth. He hit into a fairway bunker from the tee, then strayed right out of the bunker and lost his ball for four minutes. Still, the worst moment was manageable.

“That was the point in that round I settled down and just played,” Price said.

For all the greens he hit the first day, the second day was about the greens he couldn’t finish. Their shape and terrain made putting difficult.

“You can be putting and not even be able to go straight at the hole,” Price said.

He stayed close to the top of the leaderboard by avoiding double bogeys throughout the tournament. The winning golfer shot 146 for the two-day competition, beating Price by three strokes. Price said his plan is to work on putting before his next golf tournament in October.

“If I can make one or two more putts a round, that would make me shoot that much better,” he said.
