South Whidbey girls tennis doubles teams sweep, hammer Granite Falls

The South Whidbey’s girls tennis team won its fifth meet of the year with a 6-1 victory over Granite Falls on Tuesday.

The South Whidbey’s girls tennis team won its fifth meet of the year with a 6-1 victory over Granite Falls on Tuesday.

The Falcons swept the doubles matches and won first, second and fourth singles in their first match after nearly two weeks off from competition.

All four of the singles matches were decided in straight sets. Falcon senior Amelia Weeks defeated Granite Falls’ Hailey Arndt 6-1, 6-3. Falcon junior Isla Dubendorf fended off Granite Falls’ Laura Gibertson 7-5, 6-1. Granite Falls’ Kaitlyn Gresli defeated Falcon junior Katherine Read 6-3, 6-2. Bayley Gochanour, a Falcon sophomore, defeated Granite Falls’ Brynne Mota-Soriano 6-0, 6-2.

In doubles, Falcon duo Tess Radisch and Brea Gauger were tested in a three-set match. They fought from a second-set loss to beat McKenzie Meyer and Annie Hart 6-4, 4-6, 7-5. Falcons Colleen Groce and Kendra Warwick defeated Brittany Lindell and Katy Phillips 6-1, 6-3. South Whidbey’s Lindsay Oppelt defeated Brianna Cervarich and Emma Loney 6-0, 6-1.

South Whidbey’s next match is its last scheduled head-to-head with Coupeville on April 22 at Coupeville High School.
