Seven Falcon cross country runners eclipsed their old personal records in this year’s Sunfair Invitational.

South Whidbey competed in the Sunfair Invitational in Yakima for the fifth consecutive year and again had strong performances Oct. 1. It’s one of the few three-mile races the Falcons run every year.

On the girls team, senior Anna Hood and juniors Bonnie Klamm, Nora Felt and Lilli Stelling set their best times. Emma Lungren finished seventh among freshmen girls in the two-mile.

Stelling, the Falcons’ top runner, competed against other teams’ third-best runners and finished in 19 minutes and 51.26 seconds. Her time put her in seventh place by cutting 28 seconds off her time.

Felt beat her previous record by 13 seconds. She ran against other teams’ fourth-best runners in 23:04.54. Klamm had the most dramatic improvement by 1 minute and 22 seconds. As the Falcons’ fifth-best runner, she set her best three-mile time at 23:02.28.

Hood finished in 24:12.03, an improvement of 26 seconds.

For the boys team, seniors Will Zink and Michael Cavender and junior Jhamil Bader-Jarvis set career low times in the three-mile race.

The most dramatic improvement was by Bader-Jarvis. He reduced his time by 36 seconds and ran the Sunfair course in 18:33.31.

Zink beat his previous time by 28 seconds and finished in 18:30.45. Cavender improved by three seconds in 20:22.84.
