Thompson, Walker take 100-meter wins

South Whidbey’s Chandler Thompson won the 100-meter sprint in 11.54 seconds — a personal best — at Sultan on Thursday. Fellow Falcon McKenzie Walker won her race in 13.33, then took the 200-meter as well in 27.42.

The South Whidbey High boys team placed third overall, but the SWHS girls beat Sultan and Granite Falls for the top spot.

“We held out most of our top boys, resting them for Saturday’s meet at Holder Relays,” reported Falcon coach Doug Fulton. “Chandler and McKenzie had very good times, and the boys’ throws were very strong, sweeping the shot put and discus.”

Jasper Tyler was second in the 100-meter at 12.04 and the 400-meter run with 56.38. Will Zink took a first in the 800-meter run with 2:28.03.

In the 3,200-meter distance run, Blake Koszarek placed second in 11:31.72.

Jackson Engstrom put his shot 43 feet for first place, David Monell was second with 42 feet and Chris Monell was third at 39-09.

Zach Idso was first in the discus with a throw of 115-02, Danny Zuver second at 114-07 and Chris Monell third at 114-01.

Will Hallberg placed first in the high jump at 5 feet, 8 inches.

For the girls, Caroline Habel was second in the

800-meter run with 2:46.06 and Courtney Bosman third with 2:51.38. Distance runner Emily Martin was second in the 3,200-mters at 11:31.72 and Cassie Bosman placed third with 6:32.28 in the 1,600-meter run.

Nikki Enters had a career high throwing the shot put 29-10.5 and Kelsey Engstrom was second with 29-04.5.

Enters also placed first in discus with 103-01 (a career-high mark) and Engstrom was third with 69-11.

Cayla Calderwood, back on track from an injury last year, threw the javelin 87 feet for first place, followed by Enters with 85 and Ann Hefflinger with 69.

Calderwood was a triple threat, winning the high jump at 4-10, and the long jump with 16-01.5.

Saturday, the team travels to Yakima for the Holder Relays.
