Freeland’s 1504 Coffee, a 21-year fixture next to the Texaco station just north of the traffic light along Highway 525, is for sale.

Jessica Leon of Clinton, who has owned the business for the past four years, said she has decided to pursue other interests.

“This is a great community place,” Leon said Monday. “It’s one of those places that deserves to carry on.”

The business began in 1989 as one of the first espresso shops in the South End, offering a place to sit down with a cup, or have a community meeting.

Besides coffee and conversation, Leon supplied wall space for local artists to display their work. A different artist was featured each month.

“It’s really a local place. Our customers are special people, the best” she said.

The sale includes all furniture, fixtures, special recipes and inventory.
