‘Return of the River’ screens in Langley

South Whidbey residents Drew Kampion and Ben Thomas will present an afternoon showing of “Return of the River” from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 16 at The Clyde theater in Langley.

The film is an award-winning documentary about a campaign to set a river free, culminating in the largest dam removal in history at the Elwha River on the Olympic Peninsula.

According to a recent press release, “Return of the River” follows a group of strong-minded, committed people as they attempt the impossible: to change the public opinion of a town and eventually the nation to bring a dam down.

The community comes to a consensus and sets the Elwha River free, allowing for a more sustainable future.

According to the press release, the film is a beacon of hope amidst grim environmental news nationwide.

A question and answer session with filmmakers John Gussman and Jessica Plumb will follow the show.
