Contra dances enter summer

A new round of contra dances for summer begins on Saturday at Bayview Hall.

“A new round of contra dances for summer begins this Saturday, June 10, at Bayview Community Hall. This first summer dance will be led by caller Adam Carlson, who just this past weekend was one of the callers at FolkLife in Seattle. Hosting the Island Contra Band will be Joanne Rouse, longtime Whidbey Island musician. A workshop for inexperienced dancers is held at 7:30 p.m. and dancing starts at 8. If there are enough dancers (as well as stamina and enthusiasm) there will be dancing until 10:30 or even 11 p.m.Admission to the contra dance is $6 for adults (13 and older); $3 for children (5-12). Other dances in the Second Saturdays Summer Series (SSSS) will be held on Saturday, July 8 (a Choochokam event), and Saturday, August 12. For more information call 221-0494.”
