First Street work riles business

Water line work on First Street in Langley is all replaced.

Finishing touches of repaving the road and sidewalks, however, remains. A recent attempt by Kreig Construction bothered the owner of a building and business on First Street when the workers arrived to work on the sidewalk during a busy weekend.

The mayor said he called the construction manager and requested the crew return later. Kreig Construction begrudgingly agreed, said Mayor Fred McCarthy.

“So far, we have strong personalities on each side of that issue,” he said.

The contractor wants to finish the work because Langley holds its retainage fee of about $15,000. The building owner was also upset with the work on the sidewalk replacement, which was replaced a few years ago for city standards.

“I think there is some reasonableness to her opinion,” McCarthy said.
