Four apply for port board vacancy

At least two former Langley city officials and one soon-to-be former county official have applied.

At least two former city of Langley officials and one soon-to-be former county official have applied for the open position on the board of commissioners for the Port of South Whidbey.

Ed Halloran, who served on the board for the past eight years, announced his resignation in October. A total of four people applied for his position representing District 2, which encompasses Langley, Saratoga and the Bayview area.

The candidates are Tim Callison, Stan Berryman, Greg Easton and Wanda Grone.

From 2015 to 2021, Callison was the mayor of Langley. Midway through his second term, he moved outside of Langley city limits and resigned from the role.

Berryman served as the city’s director of Public Works from 2014 until 2021, when Callison decided to eliminate his position with the city.

Easton was previously involved in the city’s Affordable Housing Sub-Committee as a board member. The ad hoc committee was disbanded in April 2022. He is currently a part of Island County’s Housing Advisory Board.

Wanda Grone is set to retire from her role as Island County treasurer at the end of the year. She declined to seek re-election for the role this year.

Stan Reeves, the executive director for the Port of South Whidbey, said a date and time for a special meeting of the board of commissioners to conduct interviews is being coordinated and will be announced when details are finalized.
