The quilt will be displayed at a festive Mother’s Day Brunch on May 14 at the Clinton Progressive Hall, when the raffle tickets will go on sale.Nancy Andrews of the Piecemakers Quilt group said the quilt was started at the suggestion of Martha Furey, who with Lynn Willeford founded FOF in 1997. The Piecemakers had worked on a raffle quilt a few years ago for the American Cancer Society. They are all such wonderful, skilled quilters, Andrews said. And some of our members had never heard of Friends of Friends. It didn’t matter. There was a need. The members of the Piecemakers are Cathy Hammond, Pat Mock, Nancy Andrews, Pat Rice, Tina King, Renee Bilyeu, Becky Ward, Evelyn Boyd, Mary Lou Cota, Brenda Davie, Vicki DeGraff, Felicia Lindus, Pearl Lovell and Christi Shaffer. The Mother’s Day Brunch will be held from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. at Clinton Progressive Hall and feature food from kitchen queens Deon Matzen and Shirlee Read, with music by pianist Kathy Fox, the Stilton String Quartet and violinist Talia Marcus. Tickets are $10; $5 for those under 12; available at the door. Proceeds will help pay for such expenses as doctors, dentists, laboratory tests, hospital and at-home care, eyeglasses, medications, physical therapy, screening exams, ferry fares, and other bills related to health care.”
