Paving on Highway 20 starts Tuesday

Work crews will start laying the final layer of asphalt on Highway 20 south of Oak Harbor the night of Tuesday, July 15, state officials said Friday. Drivers should expect minor delays.

One lane will be closed from 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. Tuesday, July 15, through Thursday, July 17.

The work should wrap up in two weeks if the weather cooperates.

The state was forced to postpone the paving twice because of wet and cold weather last year and a pair of nesting bald eagles this spring.

The work is part of a $9.6 million safety improvement project that added turn lanes, widened lanes and shoulders, straightened and leveled the road, and added other safety features between Sidney Street and Scenic Heights Road.
