South Whidbey’s Fire District 3 has decided not to ask voters for a tax increase in November.

District commissioners discussed funding options for a central facility for administration offices, a fire station and training area with a tower in Bayview on Thursday night.

“We determined we are going to continue with the planning portion, for which there is money in the reserve fund,” said Fire Commissioner Kenon Simmons said. “We’re going to move forward, but at a slow pace.”

The new facility is expected to cost roughly $4 million.
